The Baccarat Exhibition Catalogue
Baccarat and the 1920s, a breath of modernity

by Christie Mayer Lefkowith
Baccarat invited Christie Mayer Lefkowith to assist in the organization
of an exhibition that focused on its creative production during this
prolific decade, referred to as "The Roaring 20s"

This exhibition, which was held at the Baccarat museum in Paris,
was originally scheduled to be held from October 29, 2007 until
February 29, 2008. However, because the public attendance broke
all museum records, the exhibition was extended until May 17, 2008

Baccarat then requested and received special permission from
French Customs to move this exhibition to another museum in
Lorraine on the premises of the crystalworks. This second exhibition
was held from June 16, 2008 to November 9, 2008

To document this exhibition, and to provide visitors with a permanent
record of the outstanding creativity of Baccarat during the 1920s,
Christie Mayer Lefkowith wrote and published the exhibition catalogue

The text of the 48-page Baccarat exhibition catalogue was written in
both English and French. Michaela Lerch, Conservator in charge
of Baccarat Patrimony wrote the preface of this catalogue

77 color photographs featured 114 of the rare Baccarat flacons, which
were exhibited. In addition to flacons, Baccarat exhibited many other
crystal items: vases, bibelots, stemware, flatwear, etc. Other perfume
and cosmetics items from this decade were also shown

The exhibition was divided into five thematic categories:
1. Exotic and sensual
2. The 1925 Art Deco exhibition
3. Elegance and refinement
4. Purity and geometry
5. Idyllic destinations

The Baccarat exhibition catalogue is organized into these same 5 categories
